Date and tamarind cake (dried dates)

175 g walnuts
Preheat oven to 180C
grease and line an 8-inch cake tin
Chop the walnuts coarsely
200 g dried dates
50 g tamarind paste
300 ml water
Chop the dates
Put the water and tamarind paste in a pan
bring to boil
Boil for 1 minute then allow to cool
250 g butter
150 g dark brown sugar
mix in the butter and sugar
2 eggs
beat in the eggs
275 g flour
2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
mox the flour and bicarbonate, then add them
add the walnuts
Put into cake tin
Cook for 1 hour
allow to cool
8 pods cardamom
take the seeds from the cardomom pods
grind the seeds
150 g icing sugar
1/2 lemon juice
mix with icing sugar
add lemon juice
add a little more water if necessary
drizzle over the cake
